The upcoming WV National Capital Area Chapter golf outing is going to start with a bang….. literally…. as newly-selected Mountaineer Mascot Michael Garcia will have the honors of firing his musket as the official tournament starter. The tournament is scheduled for April 25 at Westfields Golf Club in Clifton, VA, and registration and sponsorship opportunities are now available.
Garcia will officially take over as mascot at the football team’s Blue-Gold football game this weekend in Morgantown, when current Mountaineer Jonathan Kimble hands over the prized rifle, which is provided as a gift from the NCAC.
“I’m sure Michael will do an outstanding job of getting us all fired up at the tournament, and having him there is a great addition to what we think is already shaping up to be an outstanding event,” said NCAC President Darren Feeley. “We’ll have Michael helping us get started, and Athletic Director Oliver Luck ending the day with his remarks at the post-tournament dinner. That is a great day for Mountaineer fans!”
In other tournament news, Acura has confirmed some fantastic hole-in-one prizes are up for grabs. An ace on the longest par 3 on the course will get you a one year lease of a 2015 Acura MDX. That would be a great ride for a year, but the golfer in me has my sights set on the prize for a hole-in-one on the second longest par 3: A 4-Day/3-Night Package at St. Andrews from the Old Course Experience. Road Hole, here I come! A TaylorMade SLDR Driver and a set of TaylorMade Speedblade Irons are also on the line, as is a spot for the winning team in the Acura College Alumni Team Championship at the Pinehurst resort in North Carolina.
Golfers may register to play as individuals, or in groups of two, three, or four, and sponsorship opportunities are also available at several different levels of support.
