Tired of all of that snow forcing you to run in the street? Does the ice on the towpath have you slippin’ and slidin’ away? Don’t worry, spring’s just around the corner and with it comes a great chance to run for WVU in the first ever THEALUMRUN™.
THEALUMRUN runs bills itself as a “premium active lifestyle event that harnesses the strong spirit of community shared by College and University alumni, students and sports fans all around the world.” It’s a weekend of fun activities, including a Reunion Party and Service Project opportunity, and road racing with your choice of distance.
The DC event is one of several runs around the country that have been and will soon be announced, and the idea is to provide an opportunity for college alums in cities to participate in a 5K or 10K road race on a team comprised of fellow college alumni. The inaugural event is scheduled for March 27-29 here in the DC area, starting with the Reunion Party Friday night at Mission, a DuPont Circle Club. You have the option of participating in a community service project the following day, and the weekend culminates with a 1K ‘future’ Alumni Fun Run, and a 5K and 10K race. After the race, check out the wide range of health and wellness exhibits in the University Quad area.
THEALUMRUN™ also provides runners with a chance to donate to their school, and if you’re interested in signing up for the WVU team or learning more about the weekend, check out the website at www.alumrun.com.
Our team name is Mountaineers, so be sure to sign up with us if you want to race that weekend. If you’d like to find out more about the WV involvement in the race, email Kerrie Heim at kerrieheim@gmail.com
